Quartz Glass for Chemical Processing
Fused quartz is inert to nearly all acids — including hot aggressive media that attack metals and many ceramics — with the notable exceptions of hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated alkalis. Combined with a continuous use temperature around 1100 °C, this makes quartz a natural choice for chemical equipment that combines corrosion and heat.
Typical Chemical Industry Uses
- Sight glass / viewports — quartz sight glass lets operators visually monitor level, flow and color in vessels and lines handling corrosive media.

Limitations to Design Around
- Hydrofluoric acid dissolves quartz — never specify quartz for HF service.
- Hot concentrated alkalis attack the surface over time.
