Fused Quartz for Optical Applications
Fused quartz and fused silica transmit light across a broad band — from deep UV through visible to near infrared, depending on grade — while holding optical surfaces stable across temperature swings. That combination makes them standard materials for optical windows, substrates and components in industrial and scientific equipment.
Typical Optical Uses
- UV windows and optics — JGS1-class material transmits deep-UV wavelengths blocked by ordinary glass.
- Furnace and chamber viewports — windows that stay transparent at high ambient temperature.
- Lamp envelopes and sleeves — UV lamps, sterilization systems and curing equipment.
- Substrates and carrier plates — dimensionally stable platforms for coatings, lithography masks and sensors.
Material Selection for Optics
Grade choice decides the transmission range and bubble class: see the JGS1 / JGS2 / JGS3 comparison and the fused silica page for the synthetic option used in deep-UV laser optics. Surface finish (ground, polished, optical polish) is agreed per application at quotation.
