Quartz Glass for Solar / Photovoltaic Manufacturing
Photovoltaic manufacturing is one of the largest consumers of quartz consumables. Both silicon crystal growth and cell production lines run high-temperature processes where fused quartz components are in direct contact with, or immediately surrounding, molten and hot silicon.
Crystal Growth
- Czochralski (CZ) pulling — quartz crucibles hold the silicon melt during monocrystalline ingot growth. Crucible purity and dimensional stability directly affect ingot quality and crucible life.
- Directional solidification (DS) — larger square crucibles for multicrystalline casting processes.

Cell Production Lines
- Doping and diffusion — quartz tubes and boats carry wafers through emitter diffusion in tube furnaces.
- Annealing and oxidation — quartz carrier and tube consumables for high-temperature steps on PERC, TOPCon and HJT lines.
- Wet processes — quartz components resistant to the acids used in texturing and cleaning steps.
Why Quartz, Not Other Materials
Quartz crucibles survive contact with molten silicon at ~1420 °C without reacting significantly, and their low thermal expansion prevents cracking during thermal cycling. No metal or ordinary ceramic offers this combination of purity and thermal performance.
